KD won over fans and critics through a series of acclaimed albums and mixtapes independently from 2007 through 2016. His sound was praised for the impeccable use of soul samples combined with the reality of the life on the streets in Birmingham, Alabama. As a result, he became a pioneer of hip-hop for Birmingham, Alabama in the digital era. He was offered record deals after the release of <a href="spotify:album:10djKPnJVy66JByW5Mav1N" data-name="Last Man Standing">Last Man Standing</a>, but declined every deal due to the fact he wanted to stay independent.
