Keith Getty

Born Julian Keith Getty, Keith Getty is half of <a href="spotify:artist:0I4Bk2s2BUJyykCwtxx8Xx">Keith & Kristyn Getty</a>, who have emerged as two of the most prolific and popular writers of 21st century Christian hymns, including the modern classic "In Christ Alone." Born in Lisburn, Northern Ireland, Getty began playing classical guitar at the age of 11, and took up the flute at 12. He went on to study music at Durham University, graduating in 1995. During his time there, he had the opportunity to take part in a master class with renowned flutist <a href="spotify:artist:774mHr909NkDVeyyXQBQfZ">James Galway</a>. Getty met church singer and songwriter Kristyn Lennox in 2002, and the couple married in 2004.

They soon began recording as <a href="spotify:artist:0I4Bk2s2BUJyykCwtxx8Xx">Keith & Kristyn Getty</a>, and released their debut album, In Christ Alone, in 2006. It would make its way onto the Billboard Top Christian Albums and Top Heatseekers charts two years later. They reappeared on the same charts with 2009's Awaken the Dawn. Hymn Makers: Speak O Lord followed in 2011, the same year their first Christmas album, Joy: An Irish Christmas, would hit the Top Ten of the Billboard Christian and holiday album charts. Released in 2013, Hymns for the Christian Life marked the duo's first appearance on the Billboard 200. Highlights from these earliest works were captured in concert on the couple's 2013 effort, Live at the Gospel Coalition.

By then splitting their time between Portstewart, Northern Ireland and Nashville, Tennessee with their children, <a href="spotify:artist:0I4Bk2s2BUJyykCwtxx8Xx">the Gettys</a> returned in 2014 with The Greengrass Session, described as "six hymns from the old world and the new." It earned them the number two spot on yet another chart, Top Bluegrass Albums. The holiday album Getty Christmas arrived the following year, and 2016 brought Facing a Task Unfinished, named after a 1931 hymn that they reworked for the album.
