Keys n Krates, made up of Adam Tune, David Matisse, and Greg Dawson, began as a live act that would flip popular hip-hop and dance music tunes. The trio then decided to create their own music. Their penchant for layered drum breaks, world music, and dusty samples would make its way into the distinct Keys N Krates sound.
Keys N Krates breakout single "Dum Dee Dum" was released in 2013, and became one of the most formative tracks of the electronic trap subgenre. In 2018, a pivot towards working with more collaborators and sounds — ranging from pop to boom bap and disco to house music — injecting R&B into their style with their debut album, Cura. The 2021 pop-leaning second studio album, Original Classic, would solidify the band as a boundary-breaking crossover electronic act.
In 2023, Keys N Krates delivered their third studio album IN:TENSION. The dance music-centric record is an ode to legendary acts like Masters at Work and Armand Van Helden. IN:TENSION features major R&B star Ciara, plus Dana Williams, Taite Imogen, Lion Babe and Aaron Carl. The album has been supported by artists such as Honey Dijon, Luke Solomon, Pete Tong, Little Louie Vega, Diplo, Dombresky, Melvo Baptiste, and more. Keys N Krates are now beginning a steady stream of releases for 2024/25 of both original and remixes, releases on Nervous Records, and Mele’s Club Bad label. Expect lots of music this year, and D.J. sets that set them apart with their unique “outsiders” approach to House music.
