Kitchen Knives officially began in the bathroom of The Chimes in Covington, Louisiana on December 31st, 2019, when Ben Mitchell wrote an idea for a multi-genre side project in his notes app.
The project would soon be left behind during the chaos of 2020. However, after finding a real interest in playing guitar, Ben began to write riffs that would eventually become part of the Kitchen Knives we all know today.
This new era of the band started with <a href="spotify:track:4meqKqrKjVSCMK1JNUsunK" data-name="Blood Moon">Blood Moon</a>, supported with a cover of <a href="spotify:track:0TRlvQkxHLnAERVMlTjOLp" data-name="Idioteque">Idioteque</a> by Radiohead. A few singles later — including the project’s most popular song to date, <a href="spotify:track:3mBNI69LBZrHyzlCGme8Rr" data-name="Where's the Love">Where's the Love</a> — Ben began to work on the first Kitchen Knives EP, <a href="spotify:album:5KSzE6FgDDgx1x2imuPmvO" data-name="Beginnings">Beginnings</a>.
Beginnings brought the live-show staple, and crowd pleaser <a href="spotify:track:03p3SXuNuujNIOO39dfYwH" data-name="Purple Spiral">Purple Spiral</a>. As well the emotional shoegaze cut, <a href="spotify:track:1ayrIFIlzSnmPRIX4pczvP" data-name="Foolish">Foolish</a>. This EP would lay the groundwork for the debut Kitchen Knives album, Taurus.
Taurus is a 9-song concept album concluding the story of the couple who shared a kiss under the blood moon. This album takes you on a journey from breakup to acceptance. No punches pulled, no emotional stone left unturned. You’ll find anger, sadness, regret, optimism, and everything in-between here.
“This is the debut album I’ve always wanted to release. I never knew how to make it real, though. Finally it’s here. This is straight from my heart.” -Ben Mitchell
