La Mer was formed spontaneously one late evening playing in their own underground club, The Owl, in the small picturesque, Catholic, fairytale town (with a drop of poison), Vadstena, Sweden. Luckily Jonatan Rosén was there at the venue and instantly signed them to Archiboldo Records.
La Mer plays a dreamy indie pop/rock sound flirting with 60s surf and French film.
La Mer, which at its core consists of Sofia Ek (vocals) and Johan Karlsson (guitar) recorded the EP "Right here, right here, right here" together with the 90's legend Jörgen Wärnström (<a href="spotify:artist:0qSB0OL2Btzd9pb1lJeLQ3" data-name="Cloudberry Jam">Cloudberry Jam</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:2ONTHTFGq5YowEelCnTJWC" data-name="500 Mil">500 Mil</a> ) in studio Lyckan. The EP was released in September 2020 with Olle Sköld (drums), Joel Alenius (bass) and Rasmus Sköld (organ/accordion).
In 2021 La Mer released the single Chazelle Ending with Magnus Gyllenswärd (bass) and Linus Hagberg (drums).
In 2023, in tribute of late swedish music legend <a href="spotify:artist:22Wo43V44RtrpJZsjeI9EA" data-name="Pugh Rogefeldt">Pugh Rogefeldt</a>, La Mer released thier first song singed in swedish. A raw live studio version of Pugh's "Snart kommer det en vind".
The debut single ’La mer’ is about a roadtrip, a murder and the sea. A cinematic sound with a touch of French 60s, Tarantino and endless roads.
La Mer's second single ’Pineapple dream’ offers destructive love in decadent hotel rooms where the wallpaper blooms.
