Laura Sumner is a folk-rock singer/songwriter whose family roots trace back to Georgia, though her formative years unfolded across California and Connecticut. Her first major release with Grammy-winning producer Marc Swersky, Red Clay Blue Sky, became a poignant five-song portrait of storytelling across an American landscape.

Born, fittingly, in the Summer of Love, Sumner’s earliest memories are steeped in the poetic fantasy of psychedelic rock, yet her heart found its home in the confessional lyricism of icons like Joni Mitchell & Carly Simon. “Sumner’s gutsy lyricism has become an outright trademark,” writes Skope Magazine.

Now, following the release of her 2025 singles “Paperdoll” and “Santa Rosa Sky,” she continues her evolution as a songwriter with the forthcoming EP Purple Raging Flower (out May 29), a reflective song cycle exploring romantic uncertainty and modern single adulthood. In the spirit of the great singer-songwriters of the ’60s and ’70s, her music carries emotional honesty into a present-day landscape.
