Pittsburgh-bred artist (born Allen Baker Jr in 1990)—whenever it’s a single or solo project, his work ethic has earned him freedom to explore his sound on his own terms. From writing, rapping, singing and producing—mostly feature-free—projects starting 2014 up til this present moment. Lavaa Man’s sound crystallized on highlights like 2016’s The Redprint, 2018’s Lavaa Szn, 2019 the Fire Water series and 2020’s Lil Lavaa—has instantly drawn fans to his silky vocals, quotable lyrics and flexible music style. Stickiest of all is Lavaa Man’ natural sense of melody—a quality that comes through both in his beats and his sing-song flow. The unerringly melodic foil who can infuse even the most self-aggrandizing lyrics with a sweet, playful charm. Lavaa Man has a way of bending his voice (often using Auto-Tune) into soulful, often sad shapes, half-rapped and half-sung—the sound of a crooner in space. So a pop star, maybe. But definitely not a rapper in the traditional sense.
