As a self produced musician at a time where very few audio engineers are women, 21 year old Layla Faye is a powerful force of nature amongst a flurry of independent artists flocking to the scene. A born performer and composer, her alternative style is emphasized by soaring vocals, orchestral arrangements, and complex harmonies that are brought to life by her accompanists and live band. With a unique perspective from her youth spent uprooted every few years by a military family, this artist directs our awareness to the painful and rewarding transition into womanhood during a time of social upheaval. With lyrics filled with historical references and feminine figures of power and struggle- she reminds us that the past is easily repeated, but only if it is forgotten.
Working with her co-producer, bandmate, and father, Jey Faye, they have been taking over the D.C. area by storm and drawing fans in to become a part of their musical family. Layla has been consistently writing songs, sonnets, and poems from a young age - her first songs as early as 7 years old- and her father nurtured her gift as they began writing together to reach their shared dream. Once he retired, they built a home studio together and over many years learned the intricacies of music production to record her upcoming album, with the debut single Meant to Live, being the centerpiece of the work.
