Leisure Theory is the genre-blending project of Irish producer Jake Smith, crafting a bold and distinctive sound rooted in electronic indie pop.
With airplay across BBC Introducing Manchester, BBC Northern Ireland, Amazing Radio, and recognition as a “Fresh Fave” by BBC 6 Music’s Tom Robinson, the project quickly built a loyal following through electric live shows and standout support slots for acts such as Porij and Rachel K Collier.
Following a string of sold-out gigs in Manchester and a surge in support across the UK and Ireland, 2023 marked a return to the project’s core ethos: heavier, sequencer-led tracks brimming with urgency and emotional clarity.
This culminated in the release of A Joy, A Pleasure, A Privilege, Leisure Theory’s fourth EP.
After a year-long hiatus, anticipation has been steadily building. Leisure Theory returned in 2025 with Body Double. A bold statement piece that signalled a darker, more intense sonic direction.
Now, the follow-up single Centrifuge shifts gears with a more vibrant, rhythm-forward energy with a propulsive blend of live drums, jagged guitar textures, and euphoric synths.
Retaining the emotional intensity of Body Double, it leans into a brighter, more danceable palette, culminating in a massive indie pop/rock chorus built for the stage.
Leisure Theory returns to the live circuit for the first time in two years with a headline show at Band on the Wall, Manchester, on December 10th.
