Lil Grifo born Jorge Castaneda is a Mexican American artist who’s strategically paving his way in the music scene.
The South San Diego, California native rose from the bottom. Growing up with his grandparents and navigating back and forth from the border, Grifo recalls the streets rapidly become a second home to him. Since his teenage years he found himself in and out of the jail system where he first took on
writing.
“It was the only way for me to communicate my feelings. There’s not much to do in there but write about what I was going through and how I felt.”
He officially dived into the music scene in 2012 when he dropped his debut track “Die Smoking”. Quickly he became popular for his remixes of old school and original tracks. One in particular, “No Friends” which sampled the classic Whodini track “Friends”. The track caught the attention of a large audience (over 1.187 million) and sprouted the
beginning of a broader fan base.
Fans also took a liking to the bouncy and Cali- infused visual to his track "Southern Cali". The video to date has racked up over
1.187 million views on YouTube.
