b. Patricia Amphlett, c.1950, Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. Amphlett began singing while still a young schoolgirl and had a surprise hit in 1963 with ‘He’s My Blonde Headed Stompie Wompie Real Gone Surfer Boy’. Later, she moved into other realms of music and built a successful and long-lasting singing career. In the mid-90s she recorded with jazz musicians including Errol Buddle, David Seidel and Lawrie Thompson. Her singing voice as a mature artist is fluid and she eloquently interprets the great standards. In 1998 a 45-cent Australian postage stamp, issued as part of a series recalling highlights of rock ‘n’ roll, commemorated her 60s hit.
