LOCAL HUSBAND is the brainchild of Lukas Hermans (Sleepers’ Reign), a moniker adopted after founding his label/collective KILOSECOND, based around 1000 second records. Wanting to lead by example, he released its first project in hopes of inspiring fellow musicians and creative friends to explore different concepts and genres (in his case hip hop), confined within a limited timeframe.
KILOSECOND’s first tape CHEESUS RAPS follows the archetypal ‘hero’s journey’, structuring Hubby’s ongoing struggle with writer’s block around a cartoonish Jesus-like parody trying to find his footing in the physical realm. Doing so, he mirrors his boundless creative mojo which he saw trapped across the ever widening canyon that is adulthood. By finishing the project and bringing Cheesus into existence, he went full circle: breaking free from the symbolic cross and inviting others in similar positions to the KILOSECOND stage, thus spreading Cheesus’ gospel to the (uninspired) masses.
