Lock & Chi is a new intercontinental pop-rock duo featuring songwriter Lachlan Meurer from Newcastle, Australia and recording artist Chase Tremaine from Nashville, Tennessee. The duo's stage name comes from the members' nicknames ("Lock" or "Lach" for Lachlan and "Chi" for Chase, whose nieces call him Chichi), but it has a double meaning as a reference to the phrase "lock and key." Lachlan's friends might be surprised to discover that he's written dozens of pop gems which have remained "locked up" for years; meanwhile, his friendship with Chase became the "key" to finally bring these songs to life, resulting in a 5-song EP of streamlined pop earworms that might surprise fans of Chase's experimental emo rock.
The Latitudes EP has a double meaning, too; it refers to its members hailing from opposite hemispheres, but Latitudes also refers to the "horizontal" nature of the EP's lyrics. In a time where many Christian artists mostly write "vertical" worship songs, Lock & Chi's songs explore interpersonal relationships: parents ("Fathers"), spouses ("Can I?"), friends ("Everybody"), and strangers ("Flood My Heart"). The duo discovered a special symbiosis as they began collaborating. Lachlan initially wrote L&C's debut single, the girl-dad anthem "Do To Me", when his daughter was a toddler, and now, years later, Chase recorded the song while he was a first-time parent to a one-year-old daughter.
