Lola Rising is an Island Reggae band, also known as “Jahawaiian," a ukulele driven 6-piece with high energy dance rhythms, horns, and soaring guitars. Reminiscent of Dirty Heads, Iration and The Green, Lola Rising has been winning hearts and minds since their inception in 2014. Their debut LP "Westward Bound" (2016) with single “Colorado” saw heavy rotation across their home state and a multitude of college radio stations across the country. Inspired from a song, frontman Paul Medina Guevara once wrote about the passing of his "Lola" (meaning Grandmother in Filipino). Coupled with “Rising" the name evokes images of spirituality while embracing the human condition.
The outfit released their latest EP, “Moving Forward,” April 24th, 2020. Releasing the album in the middle of a pandemic was never the plan. Moving Forward has much more meaning now and this record conveys the kind or music that makes you want to see the silver lining on the horizon ahead. It has helped Lola Rising cross new thresholds of creativity by exploring new genres and textures, while still finding roots in their original sound.
