Lori Yates was inducted into the Friar's Music Museum in March 2025 as part of the "SHAKING THE FOUNDATIONS: Women Trailblazers in Toronto Music Exhibit. They described her as a "country-rock visionary, a kick ass singer".
Rick Danko - The Band, sang harmony on her song Rebel Angel and told Yates she had "that desperate Canadian sound".
Lori's current album—Matador—has garnered worldwide critical acclaim was recorded at Blue Rodeo's Woodshed Studios. She re-recorded the song she wrote with Guy Clark "Time After Time".
From her start as a Queen Street cow punk to Nashville's glitz, Lori's shared stages and studios with: Roky Erickson, Rick Danko, Lloyd Cole, Emmylou Harris, Colin Linden, Rita Chiarelli, Dwight Yoakum, Jim Cuddy, Rosie Flores, Russell deCarle, duets with Greg Allman and Tom Wilson.
Juno, CCMA, Polaris Prize (Longer List), Lifetime Achievement awards, and Songwriter of the Year nominations and wins followed.
Lori's transition from major labels like Sony Nashville and Virgin Music Canada to her independent recordings was inevitable because as a true artist, this is where she has created her best work, and could follow the depth of her conviction.
Lori unwittingly gained a cult following for singing on the 1992 cult TV show Forever Knight which much to her chagrin is very popular even though she is not the writer, and was in fact just a session singer.
Her music exudes genuine artistry and authenticity.
