About Lorna
‘Lorna Brooks has the kind of voice you’d want to spend the rest of your life with’. Record Mirror
With three strong albums under her belt Lorna is being claimed as one of Scotland’s select few outstanding singer songwriters, and is living up to the hype.
Born in Glasgow and raised in a family steeped in musical genres ( her mother was a pianist and music teacher- her father had a formidable jazz record collection – her sister a pianist/musical director ) Lorna’s love of music led her to piano, guitar and trumpet lessons and laterally in her 20’s to finding her unique voice.
Nowadays it is a rare thing indeed to find a voice that has character and is unmistakeable as the artist- Lorna is such a rarity. Her records have been described as ‘songs of beauty, distinction and subtlety shot through with fragility and delicacy’ Musician Magazine
But it’s the bluesy grit and determination in her songs that have attracted some truly legendary artists to share a stage with her like Loudon Wainwright III, Janis Ian, Martin Stephenson, James Grant, Bert Jansch, John Martyn, Jimmy Somerville , Shawn Colvin, Larry Klein, Eric Bibb and Eleanor McEvoy.
"Lorna grabbed the audience with her exceptional, distinctive, powerful voice and delivery. She wooed the attentive listeners early on with a selection of her well known songs, such as the brilliant Tired, and held them in awe with an amazing, heartfelt rendition of Leonard Cohen's Hallelujah."
