The background to Lovesick is atypical. After a chance online interaction, Remy Veselis and Emilee Miller bonded over their similar tastes in music, art and literature, which led them to begin to piece together ideas for a music project at the end of 2017. While Remy was in Sydney and Emillee in Los Angeles, the duo defied geographical barriers to write and record the songs over the course of a few months in between Remy’s schedule with his band Death Bells and Emilee’s work selling merchandise on tour.
Featuring translucent vocals, etherial guitars and pounding drums, the debut release lies in a space between the coldness of 1980s UK post punk and a more modern dream pop sound. This is evident through the release, as the songs move from being dynamically angular in “12.21” and “Collarbone” to the more upbeat “Drowning”, before culminating with an acoustic song recorded in Miller’s Los Angeles home.
