MÆRER is a German experimental post-black/doom metal collective. Dedicated to raw musical expression and artistry. Their sound conjures dark, crushing atmospheres born from bleak, immersive melodies that resonate within a deep black void.
The band’s name is a neologism inspired by Maere/Mắr/Märe—a term for strange tales, eerie narratives, or unreliable accounts. MÆRER embodies both the word’s etymological roots and the role of a storyteller, weaving their own distinct perspective into the fabric of their music.
In 2022, MÆRER unveiled the first chapter of their ambitious 3 EP series with their debut, „Am Anfang“. Drawing from myths and legends, they began shaping their own haunting interpretation of the tales of Gevatter Tod and Feuerberg. These works delve deep into themes of death, despair, and the relentless grip of fate, crafting a narrative both harrowing and profound.
Their second EP, „Am tiefsten Punkt“, dropping in 2024, captures a fateful decision tied to the storyline that will shape the next chapter of the narrative.
