Maia Toakley

Last updated: 6 days ago

Last summer in London, Maia Toakley found sanctuary in a small rented room perched above a high street that hummed like a low-voltage nerve. Cloaked in the persistent blue haze of a neon 'comedy 'club sign downstairs, a persistent digital bruise, the space became a vibrant crucible for her introspection. The urban dissonance did not intrude; instead, it granted Toakley a rare permission to produce her own friction, shedding fear to write with a newfound, incandescent clarity.

Now, returning to Australia, Toakley unveils a defining chapter marked by the striking intimacy of ‘Space Song’ and her deeply moving new single, ‘Everything On Fire’. The track captures the fractured geometry of romanticizing the idea of having babies with someone you still think so highly of.

This sonic vulnerability defines Toakley’s live presence, where she masterfully balances grit with visceral tenderness. Her voice serves as a steady anchor, grounded yet possessed by a fragile, radio-static edge. It is a duality that has captivated audiences through sold-out dates in Sydney and Melbourne, a standout appearance at SXSW Sydney 2025, and high-profile supports including a recent show with The Belair Lip Bombs.
