Makwa (real name Neo Makwa) is a South African record producer and musician born and raised in Katlehong (also known as “6”), east of Johannesburg.
Makwa’s big break came when Kwesta heard his track Intwe Right (feat. TLT) and approached him. They went on to work together on songs like Noma Yini.
In 2019 he won producer of the year award at the South African Hip Hop Awards.
• He produced major hits:
• Spirit by Kwesta — one of his signature productions. 
• Ngiyaz’fela Ngawe and Mayibabo for Kwesta. 
• Other artists include AKA, Dj Maphorisa, Kabza De Small, K.O, MaE, Rich Homie Quan, Kid X, Bucie Nkomo and more. 
• His production credits include albums such as AKA’s Touch My Blood and Bhovamania. 
• More recently, He released uMguzumbane alongside Kwesta and Ovii Mathandos.
Makwa is known for his “golden touch” as a producer — being able to deliver commercially successful tracks across hip-hop and township rap genres. 
• He doesn’t shy away from blending township roots (where he grew up) with mainstream appeal, and uses his own lived experience as fuel.
