Mantis Claw was a founding member of the group Supermarket. They recorded and self released a 4-track album called Dump Koch which received a 8/10 review in UK based MUZIK Magazine. From ’95-’99 Supermarket opened for artists like KRS-ONE, Jeru the Damaja, Pharcyde, Del the Funky Homosapien, Casual and many others. Supermarket is still regarded as being an influential forerunner to the Arizona independent hiphop music scene.

After Supermarket, a new group would emerge that would satiate Jimi’s need to use the turntable even more as an instrument. The group; Morse Code, the concept; a live turntable hiphop band. After a solid year of improvising shows, Morse Code started writing and recording their album Turnstyles. Released in 2003, this album still awaits recognition for its unprecedented contributions to turntable music. After 5 years of local success performing, the group disbanded.

After the break up of Morse Code, Jimi focused on making a living dj’ing and quietly creating his own sound. He put a hold on releasing his music to the public until 2016, and since then has put out 3 EPs as well as 3 albums. His latest offering is a 10 song instrumental album inspired by his faith in Christ. It is titled Instrumentals For His Kingdom.

Jimi the Mantis Claw has traveled a long journey of musical expressions. It has been a ruff yet rewarding road. His culmination of experiences continues to add to the music he puts out into the world.
