Marc Sastre, born in Barcelona and based in Madrid, believes instrumental music is a universal language and a powerful channel for emotions and human connection.
After playing in various bands across different styles during his career—and currently collaborating with <a href="spotify:artist:51Hx65ymA6pNWu8cTTXET1" data-name="Rufus T. Firefly">Rufus T. Firefly</a> —Marc explored the performing arts, composing for theater and contemporary circus while also creating film soundtracks. In these experiences, he found his artistic identity: an instrumental, organic, sensitive, and hypnotic sound with rock-infused touches, emerging in a sincere and personal way.
His influences range from instrumental artists like <a href="spotify:artist:1dyZDfHcTtUJjx0DFBcOvc" data-name="René Aubry">René Aubry</a> , <a href="spotify:artist:4W3fa7tiXGVXl3KilbACqt" data-name="Gustavo Santaolalla">Gustavo Santaolalla</a> , and <a href="spotify:artist:73mSg0dykFyhvU96tb5xQV" data-name="Hermanos Gutiérrez">Hermanos Gutiérrez</a>; the jazz of <a href="spotify:artist:3t58jfUhoMLYVO14XaUFLA" data-name="Pat Metheny">Pat Metheny</a> and <a href="spotify:artist:5Z1XZyEFY0dewG8faEIiEx" data-name="Django Reinhardt">Django Reinhardt</a>; the sensitivity of <a href="spotify:artist:2KjAo6wVc9d2WcxdxSArpV" data-name="RY X">RY X</a> and <a href="spotify:artist:7bPs6jf983f0bjRAt1yxDM" data-name="Patrick Watson">Patrick Watson</a>; the soundscapes of <a href="spotify:artist:1aVONoJ0EM97BB26etc1vo" data-name="Steve Reich">Steve Reich</a> and <a href="spotify:artist:5gqhueRUZEa7VDnQt4HODp" data-name="Nils Frahm">Nils Frahm</a>; to the blues and rock classics. And above all, <a href="spotify:artist:3WrFJ7ztbogyGnTHbHJFl2" data-name="The Beatles">The Beatles</a> :)
In 2024, he recorded compositions from his work in performing arts and film, shaping his debut album, Rever. This conceptual work is inspired by the analogy between a river and life, a timeless metaphor for the passage of time and cyclical nature of existence. Marc sees human life as part of a similar cycle.
In the album, he reinforces continuity and the cyclical concept by linking tracks together, each representing a stage of life or the journey of a river, and mirroring the first and last piece.
