I have always been inspired by music from an early age and was in my school choir. We sung at Notre Dame Cathedral and the Hôtel de Ville in Paris and at Westminster Cathedral and the German Embassy in London.
My early music heroes were the Beatles and the Kinks as I grew up in the UK in the 1960s.
My musical leanings come I think from a relative of mine called William Henry Monk. (16March 1823 - 1 March 1889) He was a British organist, church musician and music editor who composed popular hymn tunes and is most famous for creating the melody for Abide With Me and All Things Bright and Beautiful.
I like all types of music. It's actually the piece of music itself rather than the type of music that interests me.
Traveling and moving is in my blood and I have lived at over 20 different addresses since I was 18 years of age. British and American music have been my main influences. The Beatles and the Kinks were my early musical influences and still are. I was also drawn to country music when I lived and traveled in the USA in the early 1980s. These days I write music in a mixture of styles. I am primarily a songwriter rather than a performer.
