Formed in 1996, the UK Synth Pop-Darkwave band Massive Ego originated from the short-lived new romantic revival scene, dubbed Romo by the music press, and culminating in a glowing live review in Melody Maker.
Over the band's enduring thirty-year history, and multiple line-up changes, including Dan Black (The Servant/Planet Funk), Dean Bright (Dead Or Alive), Massive Ego has graced the stage at festivals that include M’era Luna, Amphi, Wave Gotik Treffen, Out of Line Weekender, Infest, and Whitby Goth Weekend. Their joint headline tour with Ashbury Heights, support for BlutEngel, and countless performances across the UK, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Spain, and Finland.
Known for their ‘out there’ aesthetic, especially that of singer Marc Massive gaining a cult-like following in the underground clubs on the alternative dark scene, and remaining hard to categorise by genre or style. 2014 saw the band release the EP Noise In The Machine , the lead single, I Idolize You (which proved to be a substantial club hit), their debut album, Beautiful Suicide, followed by Church For The Malfunctioned, on the German label, Out Of Line Music, marking a much darker musical path, and in 2024, new guitarist Porl Young (Rosetta Stone) joined members Marc Massive (singer), Oliver Frost (Drums), and Lloyd Price (synths).
The forthcoming album Symphony Of Flies, and a new single featuring Boy George, the band's 30th year looks like being...massive.
