Mat Williams is an English Folk singer and songwriter from Derbyshire in the Midlands. He
plays many instruments but mainly acoustic guitar and fiddle. His influences are broad
including Pop, Rock and Reggae and he has played in many bands with these genres over
his musical career. More recently he plays live with his daughter, singer Briony Williams.
In 2012 he released ‘Full English’, an album of old English Folk songs which has become
popular worldwide, particularly his renditions of ‘The Derby Ram’, ‘Dashing Away with The
Smoothing Iron’ and ‘The Mermaid’. Mat’s current project is an original concept album
‘Carbon Capture’ featuring songs about contemporary life and political shifts in the face of climate change. The first track and single ‘The Shipping Forecast’ is due to be released in
the coming months.
