Rock, jazz, psychedelia, blues and everything in between is in full effect on "WHO DO YOU TRUST?", the debut album from Chicago multi-instrumentalist and producer Mateo Suarez and his electric group <a href="spotify:artist:18J4D6qd6pFi4zLE4fk2Fh" data-name="The Public Ear">The Public Ear</a>, a group that through the winter of 2025, swept Chicago with their fusion-esque sound and raw energy, and is now fully realized on this album, complete with everything from horn sections and gospel vocals to free jazz freakouts, prepared piano and overblown woodwinds.
A musician since the age of 3, Chicago's Mateo Suarez is a multi-instrumentalist and producer who combines artists like <a href="spotify:artist:6ra4GIOgCZQZMOaUECftGN" data-name="Frank Zappa">Frank Zappa</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:3ICyfoySNDZqtBVmaBT84I" data-name="War">War</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:2hGh5VOeeqimQFxqXvfCUf" data-name="John Coltrane">John Coltrane</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:74ASZWbe4lXaubB36ztrGX" data-name="Bob Dylan">Bob Dylan</a> and <a href="spotify:artist:1nJvji2KIlWSseXRSlNYsC" data-name="The Velvet Underground">The Velvet Underground</a> to create music that is an example of using the studio as an instrument done right. Influenced by rock, soul, latin, jazz and more, he began and led <a href="spotify:artist:2eMWf0KyRB4VleqnSFwwAE" data-name="The Phonecall">The Phonecall</a> from 2017-2024 and released the local favorites <a href="spotify:album:2v6HGbI1bgEcmfZurIKlKt" data-name="Swirl">Swirl</a> (2021), and <a href="spotify:album:3cFRVMJ0O1EeqvDfJb7OaL" data-name="A Message From The Folks, With Love.">A Message From The Folks, With Love.</a> (2024). Now attending Columbia College Chicago, he formed the ever-changing but eclectic rock-fusion group <a href="spotify:artist:18J4D6qd6pFi4zLE4fk2Fh" data-name="The Public Ear">The Public Ear</a>, which with the help of numerous session musicians, produced his debut, "WHO DO YOU TRUST?" under his name in April 2025. He continues to perform and record with different arrangements at all times.
