A journeyman on the Atlanta music scene, Mathis Hunter first appeared as one of the many bass players for mid-nineties punk group <a href="spotify:artist:5CfXc1Gfgnqb4bHOGSzsWl" data-name="Quadiliacha">Quadiliacha</a>. The early 2000's saw him first as guitarist and later as drummer for space rock outfit <a href="spotify:artist:3cwYJxud9KhTof1TRaMJdd" data-name="Good Friday Experiment">Good Friday Experiment</a>. In 2006, he co-founded the cosmic disco entourage, <a href="spotify:artist:6qdiGTETvQIY9Ljm5gIpTH" data-name="Noot d' Noot">Noot d' Noot</a>. In 2007, he joined <a href="spotify:artist:551OQnzRduKBAWWcgMfhAU" data-name="The Selmanaires">The Selmanaires</a> as a percussionist/guitarist whom he remained with until 2009. 2010 saw the release of his first solo album, <a href="spotify:album:3CqmgbURCY7OgklkRxLcdi" data-name="Soft Opening">Soft Opening</a>, on which he performed most of the guitars, bass, drums, and vocals himself, while utilizing many of the members of Noot d' Noot for overdubs. After the release of Soft Opening, Hunter remained focused on Noot d' Noot until it disbanded in 2014.
In 2015, Hunter formed <a href="spotify:artist:3peidPxWpYsFqinIknxZEs" data-name="Frosted Orange">Frosted Orange</a> with former Noot members Dr. Kinje and Dream Sanitation along with <a href="spotify:artist:54j6sYTaLTSwZ7fn4dI55r" data-name="The Purkinje Shift">The Purkinje Shift</a> drummer Lee Corum. After the release of Frosted Orange's debut album, Hunter again went solo, this time utilizing Lee Corum on drums and Andy Morrison on slide guitar and lap steel for 2017's <a href="spotify:album:7gQdqUXoxHG5yff4PQjGkI" data-name="Countryman">Countryman</a>. 2019 saw the release of his latest album, Mother Tongue. Hunter still occasionally plays live music, but mostly operates as a DJ.
