Ronnie Taylor was Columbus, OH’s resident soul crooner. First a member of the Four Pharaohs, Taylor and the band released two 45s on Howard Ransom’s Ransom Records: “The Move Around” b/w “Pray For Me” and “Give Me Your Love” b/w “China Girl.” Taylor parlayed his success with the Pharaohs into a record deal with Bill Moss’ Nassau label, where he recorded “Without Love” b/w “I Can’t Take It.” Lebaron Taylor’s (no relation) Revilot label took interest in the single and gave it a higher profile release, which snagged Taylor a spot in a traveling revue. Once his single lost steam, Taylor returned to Columbus where he played with OFS Unlimited. OFS cut the intricate funk instrumental “Mystic” b/w “Mr. Kidneys,” which earned the band national attention. Taylor also recorded killer funk with Sojourner Truth in Kentucky.
