Matt Speaks

Born in Winston-Salem, NC, to two wonderful parents, Matt Speaks grew up in a home where faith in Christ was important and music was enjoyed. By the third grade, Matt was writing lyrics and recording them on a boom box cassette tape. One Christmas, he was gifted with a Yamaha Midi Keyboard (which he still uses to this day). Using only this keyboard, a simple beat making software and a cheap USB microphone, Matt started writing full songs. This became an instant passion.However, the music he created was not for the glory of God, for which we have all been created. It was for Matt Speaks. A reality that would not change until he received a new heart by God's grace. Entering senior year of high school, Matt was tragically hit by the reality of his sin and the need for God's grace and forgiveness. No vice, nor any amount of freedom in music, could offer him a joy and hope that lasts. This was only to be found in God. On his way to a high school talent show, Matt was preparing to rap a song that searched the depths of his need for God. During the drive, the Lord changed his heart and Matt placed his faith and trust in Jesus for salvation. This reality is now at the root of Matt's music. It's his hope and joy to create songs that help others believe and rejoice in Jesus, to whom alone belongs all the glory!
