Mattress Food started out in 2016 as the bedroom project of Philadelphia singer and songwriter Sami Rahman. After releasing three albums of self-recorded, lo-fi indie rock with Cryola, Vulture, and Moon Town, Sami picked up a few band members to play live. Eventually Paul, Adam, and Wallace joined full-time, and the band became a four-piece. Their debut album together, Adventures in Technicolor, came out in November 2019. It is a much more ambitious affair, with big, punchy production from collaborator Jon Sambrick, and tighter arrangements and songwriting, with influences from bands like The Strokes, The Cure and Top 40 pop from the 2000s and 2010s.
