Max Fantin, the keyboardist of the now-disbanded Childhood, returns with a new EP following on from 2022’s self-released album ‘Free My Head’. RETIRO showcases a more refined, considered, and mature sound that fell into place during travels across Europe and India. The songs came into sharp focus on his return to London while slinging pizzas and moving back with his parents, aiming to rebuild himself following emotional burnout.
Enter a soundscape of lush textures, sunshine guitars, and lo-fi beats – RETIRO is a journey through isolation, loss, and growth. His forlorn lyrics reflect his time in retreat, despair, and delusion framing his words as he attempts to repair a fractured self. It deepens Max’s distinct juxtaposition of moody synths set against buoyantly assured riffs and optimistically soulful vocals.
Written and produced by Max with long-time collaborator Ben Romans Hopcraft (Childhood, Warmduscher) Nicolas Losada (Salt Cathedral) took care of mixing, with Alexis Smith (Speedy Wunderground) on mastering duties. File between psychedelic pop and alternative rock.
