Through the hypnotic yet powerful sound of her voice and harmonies, combined with her robust and direct lyrics, Dutch-Indonesian artist Maya Mae, based in Amsterdam, creates a sound that can be described as indie R&B with a hint of dream pop.
Her influences range from funk, fusion jazz and soul to especially Motown artists, who played a major role in her upbringing. Artists that mostly inspire her upcoming sound are The Weeknd’s early work, Beachhouse, Majid Jordan, Lana del Rey, Sabrina Claudio and PARTYNEXTDOOR.
Her most recent release, 'Gone Girl', quickly caught the attention of the editorial playlist ‘R&B Magic’, and her single ‘ Breathe Me’ has been on ‘Acoustic Soul’ for months. These songs offer people the opportunity to experience her internal world, which she translates through intriguing melodies and sincere lyrics. Maya also appeared at local festivals such as Hit The City in Eindhoven and Rotterdam Metropolis. In addition to her headline show in collaboration with A’dam&Co in the A’DAM Tower, she has performed at locations such as Bitterzoet, Soho House and Paradiso.
Having debuted in 2020 with her first single ‘Leave Me Alone’, followed up with ‘Breathe Me' , ‘Delusional’ and 'Gone Girl', Maya is now working on new music to be released in 2026.
