MAYA MARIA, sprouted from the sands of Terschelling, is the kind of artist who emotionally disarms and challenges you. In her fusion of Alt-R&B and Artpop, she examines the contrast between the natural and the artificial, weaving her story, vision, and emotions into music and visuals. MAYA has a gift for blending various disciplines into a captivating live experience. MAYA's passion stems from overcoming a period of forced silence due to illness, which made her world feel small. During this time, she developed an unyielding drive to pursue her dreams and never lose hope. Embracing herself and her voice, she explores the hidden freedom within her womanhood and seeks to offer space for those willing to listen.
As a solo artist, MAYA has performed at ESNS 2025, Simplon-Up, Fenix Festival, Hongerige Wolf, and Oerol (five shows). In 2025 she completed the Popronde tour, culminating in a Melkweg finale, played her vinyl release show, supported Thomas Azier, and joined Hit The North, coached by Naaz and Melanie Esther.
In everything she does, MAYA uses her voice and body to inhabit spaces where silence once prevailed. Themes such as the madonna–whore complex, sexual freedom, and intergenerational blockages form an important foundation for her artistic work.
