Behind Mehrwertsteuer (“VAT”) is a musician known as Der Vorstand
(“The Chairman”) from the Frankfurt region. Over the years, he has built a small home studio and produced original songs for Mehrwertsteuer and other endeavors with the support of Kai Stahlenberg and other friends.
The idea for Mehrwertsteuer arose from playful reflections on the absurdities of the elitist financial world—and how these could be combined, with a hefty dose of irony and elements of black and death metal. This led to the concept behind the first songs, ideas for live performances, and more—without inverted crosses, Satanism, or extremism.
For the artwork of the singles, music videos, and other visual elements,
Der Vorstand primarily uses common AI models and digitally refines them. However, his music is 100% handmade and created entirely without the help of artificial intelligence. In mid-2025, after releasing several singles, the debut album
Krone der Schöpfung (“Crown of Creation”) was released as a digital-only version.
