Mel Johnston, of Brooklyn-based soul band <a href="spotify:artist:317axNCUBh7x69mVp26lwk" data-name="The Foxy Johnstons">The Foxy Johnstons</a>, and <a href="spotify:artist:5wFVWpub6TbQt6DwGM9PoC" data-name="Kyle Lacy">Kyle Lacy</a>, guitarist and singer, met at a session years ago at Hive Mind Recording in Bushwick. After connecting at the session, Mel became a backing vocalist in Kyle's touring band. It didn't take long, however, for Kyle to recommend that the pair start a new rock-and-roll project together, with Mel as the front woman.
Surrounded by a community of friends and artists, including JC Myska on drums and Andy Bell on bass, the band began to form and record. After one EP, one live album, and several singles, the band is preparing to release their first full length studio album in 2025. The upcoming album melds the sounds that Mel and Kyle have been making together in bars for years and years, with echoes of the blues, rockabilly, and the 1950s rock-and-roll that they love.
