Mercy Chinwo is a gospel singer and songwriter known for her passionate and comforting worship music. The 2012 Nigerian Idol champion released her full-length debut, The Cross: My Gaze, in 2019. As the accolades piled up, she delivered SATISFIED in 2020 and Overwhelming Victory -- a mix of studio and live tracks -- in 2024. Also arriving that year was a duet with Bidemi Olaoba, "Give Me Chance."
Born in Rivers State, Nigeria, Mercy Nnenda Chinwo began singing in her church's choir as a young child. She was a contestant on the second season of Nigerian Idol in 2012, where she was crowned the winner. Singles like "Testimony" and "IGWE" soon followed, and Chinwo eventually made her label debut in 2017 with "Trust" after signing with gospel specialists EeZee Conceptz. The label released her debut album, The Cross: My Gaze, in April 2019. The over hour-long set featured collaborations with Chris Morgan, Olaitan Odoko, Fiokee, and Shady B. Her second album, SATISFIED, appeared in 2020. That year, she added a Gospel Artist of the Year African Muzik Magazine Award to her growing awards collection.
After marrying and starting a family with Pastor Blessed Uzochikwa in Lagos, she returned in April 2023 with the EP Elevated, her debut for GNT Nation, the couple's newly founded label and ministry. Chinwo's third long-player, Overwhelming Victory, followed on GNT Nation in March 2024. Three months later, she released the single "Give Me Chance," a duet outing with Bidemi Olaoba. ~ Marcy Donelson, Rovi
