Starting piano at aged 4 and a half, Micah has always had a complex relationship with music. Forced to practice every day for the formative period of his life, he often found more pain in music than pleasure. Despite this, Micah often refers to music as his first language and therefore his best means of communication and expression. Breaking free from his classical beginnings, he spent time getting to grips with Jazz and rock while teaching himself guitar.
Micah wrote his first song at 16 and briefly had his own band, Cadence, which recorded an EP and some demos in 2014. During this time Micah focused on teaching Piano and spent some time touring with ska bands on sax; notably Popes Of Chillitown. He is passionate about all types of music and incorporates whichever styles feel most authentic into his own writing. Consequently, Micah struggles to describe what genre his music has become.
After some challenging life events, Micah came to realise that he was not himself if he wasn’t writing music and poetry. His music speaks of his inner-most thoughts and feelings, often expressing the parts of himself which are most vulnerable. Micah sincerely hopes that his music will encourage other people to be more open about their own emotions and come to accept the parts of themselves that they feel are best kept hidden.
Coughing Up blood tells the story of finding strength from heartbreak, grief and loss. For it is by how we deal with pain, we are defined.
