Michael Coltham is an British musician and composer based in Maidstone, near London, who considers music to be the simple communication of intense emotion.
Being emotionally adorned, his music uses simple arrangements with deep, rich and complex characteristics that combine the beautiful, natural resonance of individual sounds.
Underpinning traditional instrumentation and modern textures with a pop approach to composition and arrangement, results in storytelling that blurs the lines between genres, his oeuvre becoming a classical crossover.
On Alone, Michael says, “The difference between solitude as suffering and solitude as rejuvenation is the quality of self-reflection that one can generate whilst in it. I often waltz into my Solitude with a hopeful optimism, enjoying the early moments of peace, only to find my own thoughts invade this peaceful relationship, bringing discord and chaos. My peaceful waltz is always there, always present, even when multiple threads of distraction come to the surface to dominate and violate the peace of solitude. This is what I have recreated in my new piece of music, called Alone.”
His album, PER|SE:VERE is an album of hope and struggle and determination, of continuing in the face of difficulty. Hopeful beginnings, rising tensions, the chaos, the incipient and the determination of perseverance are brought to life using his signature instrumentation, structures and techniques.
