Michael Falch is one of Denmark's biggest stars, first finding stardom as the singer for Malurt, a band he led through the 1980s. After they went on unofficial hiatus in 1994, Falch continued to work as a solo artist, expanding his purview to include acting and writing books. Falch would return to a reunited Malurt and play with Boat Man Love in the late 2000s, but he has continued to appear at the top of Denmark's charts into the 2020s with such albums as Forar/Brystet and Elsker.

Born on September 16, 1956, in Koge, Michael Falch spent much of his childhood moving. He received his first guitar when he was ten, then started songwriting as a teenager in Tonder. Within a few years, he started singing in a band formed by Mathias "Kylle" Petersen. By the end of the '70s, he'd formed Malurt with guitarist Christian Arendt and drummer Peter Mors.

With Malurt, Falch scored his first of many hits in the early '80s with the album Vindueskigger. The success brought about his first acting gig in 1983, but Malurt's days were numbered, and the group was effectively over by the end of 1984. Falch released his debut solo album in 1985 -- entitled Michael Falch -- and went on to release more than ten full-lengths over the next two decades. In addition, Falch acted in four more films, wrote a pair of books, and collaborated with Pete Repete in 1990. That same year, Falch and Malurt made a reappearance at the Roskilde Festival.

Malurt stayed active through the early '90s then went on hiatus. After concentrating on acting -- he starred as Jan Boysen on the television series Unit One in the early 2000s -- Falch returned to his solo career early in 2002, reuniting with Malurt for a 25th anniversary tour in 2005 before turning to the band Boat Man Love in 2006.

With Boat Man Love, Falch released three albums -- Sang til Undren, which peaked at nine on the Denmark charts in 2007; I Kampens Hede (2008), and Fredagsrock 2011 (2011) -- during which time he also made the 2010 live album Live Akustik with Poul Krebs.

Falch maintained his stardom into the 2020s, regularly hitting the top of the Danish charts with albums like Sommeren Kom Ny Tilbage (2013), Handen Pa Hjertet: De Storste Sange (2014), Forar I Brystet (2020), and Elsker (2021). ~ Chris True, Rovi
