Miss Black America

Formed after a chance encounter at a drum &#39;n&#39; bass night, Miss Black America (singing guitarist Seymour Quigley, guitarist Gish, bassist Mike Smith and drummer Neil Baldwin) were propelled into a low-wattage national spotlight after BBC radio legend John Peel enthusiastically championed their 2001 debut &#39;The Adrenaline Junkie Class-A Mentalist&#39; EP on his Radio 1 show, prompting Rolling Stone magazine to over-enthusiastically dub Bury St Edmunds &#39;The New Seattle&#39;. The ensuing low-budget whirlwind saw MBA touted as next big things by everyone from NME, Kerrang! and Rock Sound to 6music, Radio X and The Guardian; two studio albums and accompanying EPs followed in 2002 (debut &#39;God Bless Miss Black America&#39;) and 2005 (sophomore statement &#39;Terminal&#39;, with new guitarist Mat Anthony) before sheer exhaustion, musical differences, wildly fluctuating line-ups and a crushing lack of income ended the band in 2006.
