Vivian Sarratt and Edmond Hallas tag themselves as the "Sonny & Cher of Electro-Punk," so don't loop 'em in with the White Stripes. They're Mommy and Daddy, and don't you forget it.

The two initially met in a philosophy class while attending George Mason University in Washington, D.C., in 1998. Two years later, Mommy and Daddy got married, moved to New York City, and prepped to design their own folk-rock/metal/slowcore mess. Things didn't exactly gel until Mommy and Daddy caught the Gossip perform at the Knitting Factory in summer 2002. Immediately, Mommy and Daddy struck a chord with their fuzzed-out, guitar-driven punk sound. Six months later, Mommy and Daddy were touring England while also inking a deal with Big Cat, the indie label that's supported Pavement, Shudder to Think, Grandaddy, and Luscious Jackson. The limited-edition 7" Permed Past Her Prime/Take It appeared before the year's end, leaving New York magazine to hail the punk rock pair as one of the 25 best bands in N.Y.C. Plans for a proper full-length with producer/engineer Bob Brockmann and arranger Yaron Fuchs were slated for spring 2003. ~ MacKenzie Wilson, Rovi
