Introducing MONNA, an immersive, heavy, meditative project based in Pendle, England’s famous ‘witch country’
in Lancashire.
A love of the power of nature and the northern landscape moulds and shapes the sounds of MONNA; sprawling, deep and sometimes severe whilst allowing beauty to shine through, like the moon that, in pagan Old English, was pronounced ‘monna’.
Musically the project draws influences from the insistent repetition of artists like Can and Mogwai as well as the emotionally driven heft of Emma Ruth Rundle, Neurosis, Metz, Godlfesh and Melvins. Add the soundscapes and expanses of A Winged Victory For The Sullen and artists such as Nils Frahm and you get a sound that sits somewhere between sludge and shoegaze, post-metal and post-rock.
