"Let's assume that you think you have the choice of eight paths to follow. And let's assume that you can't see any real purpose in any of the eight. Then - and here is the essence of all I've said - you must find a NINTH PATH." - Hunter S Thompson
Mono Sources is helmed by Brett Bixby and Jesse Nason, two musicians who cut their teeth in the Long Beach music scene and went on to share touring duties at different times with Los Angeles based singer-songwriter AM and subsequent collaboration AM & Shawn Lee. Their self titled 2019 debut album showcased a mid-tempo moody collection of tracks featuring a number of guest vocalists: Lauren Hillman Culjak of Kotomi, Sas Liska, Nick Logie of HOTT MT and renowned poet and Write Bloody publisher Derrick Brown.
Just as the band began to play local live shows in Southern California the pandemic locked everything down and live music went into hibernation. The live quartet - solidified by defacto members Justin Burrow (guitars, keyboards) and Denny Weston Jr. (analog and electric drums) - quickly regrouped and began writing new music. The four and carte blanche in the creative exchange of ideas and the ample home studio time allowed each member to dive deep into sound and inspiration. The resulting tracks sound bigger and more, the band's collective trust revealing a seasoned sound. Ninth Path is the first single from these sessions, and 2022-23 will see more singles and album tracks from Mono Sources.
