Monochromatic Visions emerged in 2014, founded by Arthur Pegis, formerly the lead guitarist of a prominent Greek indie rock band that had signed with a major label when he was just 17. The band’s collective move abroad during Greece’s debt crisis aimed to escape the confines of the local scene and spark fresh creativity. Instead, it led to the group’s dissolution and the creation of Monochromatic Visions’ debut EP, From Here To There. Returning home, Arthur followed with two more EPs: Waiting For The Light and the self-titled Monochromatic Visions.
Initially released quietly on Soundcloud and Bandcamp, these bedroom productions gained traction in the DIY scene. Monochromatic Visions performed in Athens and supported acts such as Tonstartssbandht (Mac DeMarco’s guitarist Andy White) and psychedelic rockers TAU. Their music was featured on platforms like Brazil’s The Blog That Celebrates Itself, which included their Galaxie 500 cover, and Sydney’s Weisskalt Records, which spotlighted “Too Close To The Sea.” BBC’s Nabihah Iqbal played “Deep,” and “Farewell Summer” appeared in a 2019 Red Bull Surfing episode.
Juxtaposing dark sonics with luminous songwriting, the music of Monochromatic Visions has morphed into a marriage of shoegaze and post-punk.Reverb-soaked guitars, minimalistic vocal shapes, and drum patterns interweave to create visceral, nostalgic sketches of sound that echo bands like The Jesus and Mary Chain,The Cure,The Velvet Underground and Joy Division.
