Montezuma

<a href="spotify:artist:6QLbNe9vSyNaWtacqFYawD" data-name="Montezuma">Montezuma</a> began as the recording project of Vincent Valentino, a long-time musician whose played in Columbus acts Fingers, <a href="spotify:album:3qMPY2mrBuoNf53HdQYuAr" data-name="Little Waves">Little Waves</a>, The Glen Echoes, <a href="spotify:artist:0rIgDeuFh4AwNJY2OuGbrK" data-name="Souther">Souther</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:0n2ZaKBOaZRDmMYoKSyO53" data-name="Mungbean">Mungbean</a>, and <a href="spotify:artist:76nMR63ythOMVnleP5iw42" data-name="Campbell">Campbell</a>.

After working with a local producer and multi-instrumentalist, Valentino began recruiting additional players in order to flesh out the studio tracks. From there the band has grown from a studio project to a full-fledged live and touring act. Throughout the later half of 2016 and all of 2017, <a href="spotify:artist:6QLbNe9vSyNaWtacqFYawD" data-name="Montezuma">Montezuma</a> quickly made themselves known throughout the Columbus and Ohio music scenes, releasing their debut track <a href="spotify:track:70E3KUbJEyQf0Lab0NG5c1" data-name="Heavy">Heavy</a>, and opening for acts such as <a href="spotify:artist:0OdUWJ0sBjDrqHygGUXeCF" data-name="Band of Horses">Band of Horses</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:3AmgGrYHXqgbmZ2yKoIVzO" data-name="Warpaint">Warpaint</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:3h0w83PsjASrm5999trG4n" data-name="Hamilton Leithauser &#43; Rostam">Hamilton Leithauser &#43; Rostam</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:0IlQRCafsMrd0QkTRBU6n0" data-name="Surfer Blood">Surfer Blood</a>, and <a href="spotify:artist:5kdYrM3h2sB1Eid5tDf6Hk" data-name="Alex Lahey">Alex Lahey</a>.

At the end of 2017 and beginning of 2018, <a href="spotify:artist:6QLbNe9vSyNaWtacqFYawD" data-name="Montezuma">Montezuma</a> entered the studio and began recording their debut album, Family Poem.

Family Poem is the culmination of years of writing and collaborating, with some of the oldest songs on the album originating in the summer of 2009 and the youngest beginning in 2017. Featuring contributions from <a href="spotify:artist:4UcRORS3aWWSXrQLk19Jmm" data-name="Fables">Fables</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:0n2ZaKBOaZRDmMYoKSyO53" data-name="Mungbean">Mungbean</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:76nMR63ythOMVnleP5iw42" data-name="Campbell">Campbell</a>, and <a href="spotify:artist:0rIgDeuFh4AwNJY2OuGbrK" data-name="Souther">Souther</a>, alongside a host of musicians throughout the midwest scene of Columbus, OH, the album is a celebration of growth, friends, and family, while meditating on the loss of innocence, post-millennium gloom, and fear.
