MORSE might be new to the scene, but they’re already carving out a space of their own in the world of alternative metal.
The band was born in Brighton in 2023, when a group of classmates – Evalyn Edwards (vocals), Hal Dufton-Barker (guitar), Holly Forbes-Whitear (guitar), Seb King (drums), and Matt Powers (bass/production) – found common ground in their love for big riffs, dark textures, and emotionally driven songwriting. What started in classrooms and rehearsal rooms quickly became something bigger: a project rooted in expression.
Pulling from influences like Breaking Benjamin, Deftones, Evanescence, and Billie Eilish, MORSE walks the line between heavy and haunting. Their music blends distorted guitars with soft, melodic vocals and dystopian production – building a sound that feels cinematic, personal, and off-center. It's intense but still vulnerable. Familiar, but hard to pin down.
Their debut single, VICIOUS CYCLE, released on 04/07/2025, is the first proper look into what the band is about. Recorded and produced entirely in home studios throughout early 2025, all the things that are becoming signature MORSE: emotional contrast, gritty energy, and a deep sense of unease just under the surface. It’s just one song, but it sets the tone for what’s coming next.
MORSE isn’t interested in ticking boxes or following trends – they’re here to make a statement.
This is just the beginning. The first dots and dashes. The rest is yet to come.
