After years working behind the scenes as a producer, Seoul-based electronic musician Mount XLR made his solo debut in the summer of 2023 with the double single Acid Wasp, the first installment of his Caution Tape Series. From the outset, Mount XLR’s influences are unmistakable: UK bass, UK garage, breakbeat, and Chicago footwork all converge in his productions, alongside a hip hop-rooted flair for sampling.
The second release in the series, the double single Forte / 900 Wasps, expanded this sonic palette and introduced R&B-infused vocals through a collaboration with renowned Korean singer Crush. With its punchy rhythm and dancefloor-ready energy, Forte caught the attention of music content creator Derrick Gee—who played it for British musician Jamie xx—as well as Fred again.., who featured it in a social media story, and Richard Russell of XL Recordings. The track earned Mount XLR a wave of new listeners from across the globe.
Between 2024 and 2025, Mount XLR released two additional singles, Physic and Xai, contributed a track to SoundSupply_Service’s compilation SCA2, and delivered remixes for Hudson Mohawke and Nikki Nair’s Set The Roof Remixes EP and K-pop group aespa. He also performed a number of live and DJ sets in South Korea, Taiwan, and the UK. In 2025, he was awarded Best Electronic Music Track at the 22nd Korean Music Awards for Oving, from Physic—a recognition that further cemented his influence within the Korean electronic music scene.
