Johnnie Moylett (AKA Johnnie Fingers) is songwriter, musician and founding member of The Boomtown Rats.
During his time with The Rats, Johnnie was known for his distinct melodic style, stage presence and signature look of striped pyjamas. From a family of actors, artists and musicians, Johnnie’s entry into the music world was almost inevitable and, having learned the piano from a young age, he founded the band while studying architecture in 1975. The group went on to have a series of hits, Rat Trap, I Don't Like Mondays and others during its heyday from 1977 to 1985.
Following the breakup of the band, he went on to form Gung~Ho with Simon Crowe and Yoko Kurokawa in 1987. He lives in Tokyo where he continues to write.
With The Boomtown Rats, Johnnie penned massive hits like ‘I Don’t Like Mondays’ and punk favourite ‘She’s So Modern’, as well as tracks from several classic Rats albums alongside Bob Geldof. His catalogue also includes tracks from Gung~Ho such as ‘Burnin’ Out,’ and ‘Play to Win.’
He was awarded a Gold disc for his record production for the Japanese artist Naomi Tamura. He wrote a # 2 hit single for the Japanese soul singer UA. He has recorded and toured as guest musician for the celebrated artist Kiyoshiro Imawano performing at Tokyo’s Budokan and Fuji Rock Festival.
