Mr. Bow is an award-winning Mozambican artist and producer who emerged in the 2010s with an effervescent style he refers to as "jango music," which is rooted in Afro-beat, R&B, zouk, and marrabenta.
Born Salvador Pedro Maiaze and raised in the Gaza province, Mr. Bow got his start in the short-lived hip-hop group Strange Face. He teamed up with Mozambican singers and music producers Oliver Styles and Ta Basilly in 2007 and began developing the airy Afro-beat sound that would come to define him. In 2008, he issued his solo debut, Meu Sonho, which featured the hits "Txova-Xitaduma" and "Anaha-Gwente," with his sophomore effort, Kota de Familia, arriving two years later. 2012's Sina de Victoria earned Mr. Bow a Mozambique music award for the single "Nitati-Dhaya," and his fourth long-player, 2016's The King of Mozambique, yielded a slew of chart-toppers like "Vida Boa" and "My Number One."
Mr. Bow capped off the decade with a string of hits including "Hiwena" (2018), "Tsovani Minengue" (2019), and "Xikwembu Rhivalela (2020). In addition to recording and performing, Mr. Bow is the founder of his own label, Bawito Music.
