Mykl Perkins

I play guitar, sing, and write music and lyrics. My music and performance style was long ago classified by a friend as “Enthusiastic Acoustic” and by another friend as “Speed Folk”. While it is very often upbeat and fervent, I do also have a softer, quieter more contemplative side. Sometimes I approach my acoustic guitar like it were an electric and sometimes I approach my electric guitar like it were an acoustic. Sometimes I approach the guitar like it were a drum or a dulcimer and sometimes I play the guitar and the hand drums at the same time. It is my hope that at all times my music becomes an extension of myself and who I am as a member of the human race and how I can connect with my surroundings and the others around me. Often times I think my songs are attempts to figure out how I belong in this world, what my story is and how my existence can be meaningful. A great many of my songs are about people I’ve known whose existence has been meaningful to me.
